Great Machine!

We got this machine for Christmas and are totally pleased. The Vue system makes a slightly better coffee then the K-cup machines, which we assume is due to pulsing brew system. This model gives you lots of options including the ability to make the coffee hotter then you get out of the old machines. The ability to choose a "strong" option is quite helpful for those of us who enjoy a stronger more full bodied coffee. And the real good news is that we have discovered it works just as good with the less expensive K-cups. Solofill has come out with their new Solofill V2 (this is different then the previous V1 which is still widely available) which we were able to buy on Amazon. The new V2 includes an adapter that makes it easy to use K-cups with the Vue models. I have tested 2 different K-Cup coffees and compared the taste to the same coffees sold in the slightly more expensive (and harder to find) Vue cups. There is very little to no difference so we now have no problem using our V700 with either the Vue cups or the K-Cups.

Great Machine!

Stylish and easy to use machine that makes great coffee

I really like this product. Using the new capsules makes for no mess at all.The machine is ready in minutes and if you want a quick espresso its so so simple.I tend to pull a couple of shots before switching to the steam function for foaming the milk.It gets up to temperature pretty quickly. I find it takes a good 2 mins to get the milk up to the right temp.It makes good foam and I can make better drinks at home than places like starbucks.It doesn't beat the coffee shops I frequent but then it wont. A decent coffee house that uses $14,000 machines, good grinders, excellent beans and knowledgeable barristas will win everytime.But for that quick fix at home its great.Its a small unit and it looks great on my kitchen counter. People comment on how it looks all the time. It looks more expensive than it is.My first recommendation is that if you want to switch back to pulling a shot after steaming milk do not just press the cup button else it will take a while to cool down to the temp needed to pull a shot.Instead press the cup button and immediately press the steamer button. This will expell hot steam through the wand and cool down faster. I dont think this is noted in the booklet but its a great feature.Another recommendation is that you clean the wand right after steaming the milk. Its best to keep that as clean as possible and is easier to clean right after its been used than later on when its all sticky and clogged.All in all a great machine for the money. Totally recommended and believe me I am a coffee snob and will only drink great coffee.

Few complaints

I've had this machine for about three years now, on the advice of a prominent Italian/American restauranteur who told me "want to know how to get the best cup of espresso at home? Write this down...."The pods are relatively expensive, but there is a cost for laziness! More than anything, it's a guilty feeling environmentally. Wish they had a recycling program for them, I'd feel better.The machine could not be simpler to use. The water container is a little tricky to get out sometimes, but you get the hang of it. Other than that, a child could make a perfect cup from this machine (to serve to mommy or daddy, not themselves of course!)I did have a brief period where it was acting up, but unplugging and plugging back in, aka the first rule of troubleshooting devices, seemed to work. Fortunately did not have to progress to "percussive maintenance".The steamer leaves something to be desired--I had a friend who works as a barista become discouraged with it. And it loves to collect milk residue that bakes right on. The methodology I use is to steam the milk first, then push the brew button and keep the steam valve open until it all blows out (into a glass), it helps the machine cool down quicker for coffee brewing.My guests always enjoy the results and express jealousy about the machine, so no complaints about the product there. It's been a good experience.

A great first machine for us.

We purchased this machine just after Christmas, and have fallen in love with it since then. We were looking at another, better-looking espresso machine, but were advised to get the Gaggia by some friends. This is our first REAL espresso machine, I had a Mr. Coffee machine years ago that worked all right, but the Gaggia Pure is head and shoulders above that one. It makes great espresso, although we are still working on getting great crema out of it...sometimes we do, sometimes we don't (this could easily be our fault). The frothing nozzle is also great, and although it's not as fancy looking as the all-stainless model we nearly bought, it is still a nice looking machine.Negatives: no warming tray, and the first shots take awhile as the machine has to warm up first. This might be true with most machines, and it's not a big deal for us. We start it up, prep the milk and cups for a few minutes, come back and its ready to go. Subsequent shots go much quicker.We would definitely buy this machine again.

Non functioning within 3 months

Received the Gaggia Expresso Pure at the end of May 2010 and loved it for 3 months - made great coffee. In late August the knob started disfunctioning more and more. Finally figured out the metal it was on was getting so hot it was slowly melting it. Then in early September steam started coming out everywhere and water dripped even when it was turned off, and it always dripped through the coffee filter whether that button was pushed in or not. Called the company - they made us go buy their special cleaner - that would fix all. It did not. They had us take it apart several times before they finally said to send it in for them to fix. We did hear they received it, but have not gotten it back and it is now January 2011. Do not buy this machine unless you want to throw your money down the drain.

Seemed complicated at first, but is actually quite easy after the first time or two. Yummy espresso. Foaming wand makes thick, delicious foam for cappuccino. Easy to clean. The pump is quite loud when passing water for the espresso, but that's only a minute.

A great first machine for us.

Short Warranty, no support from manufacturer

Had for less than 10 months. Used on the average twice a week. Was cleaned and descaled regularly. Supposed to be a commercial grade coffee maker on a par with a Bunn. Stopped working. Power still went to switches but would not brew and bottom plate would not heat. Top plate still heated. Emailed to contact Avantco customer service, but no answer. I bought a "commercial" grade appliance because of the supposed repairability if something wore out or went wrong. As of yet, I have gotten NO support from them. The company that sold it to me told me to "hit the reset button". There is no reset button. Now I have a good looking stainless steel paperweight which will soon be in the dumpster. The lesson that was learned is don't buy a cheap knockoff, you only get what you pay for.

This machine has the features I consider non-negotiable in a coffee maker: a carafe that keeps the brew warm for hours without scorching it; an easy to read display when filling; a timer so that I can stumble into the kitchen at 5:00 each morning and my coffee is hot and waiting for me; and a reasonable price. I would purchase it again, no question.
